Women's GJTA Rules

COURTS:  All regular matches will be played at Roxbury Park Tennis courts.

DAY/TIME:  Wednesdays at 6:00 PM and 7:15 PM

RAIN-OUTS:  Captains will work together with Joyce Fabina, Women’s VP, to determine calling a rain-out, using best judgment.  Decisions should be made by 5 PM for the 6 PM match and 6 PM for the 7:15 PM match.

  • Captains are responsible for notifying team members by phone.
  • Captains are responsible for clearing wet courts when necessary.
  • Rescheduling for rain dates will be on the designated Wednesday at the end of each half.  Courts in progress must be completed by the same players at their convenience, before the end of the half.  If a court has not started playing a point, that player may be substituted, but you may not use any players that have already played that night. If additional rain dates are needed, the start of the 2nd half will be rescheduled to allow all rain outs to be played.  Also, if additional rain dates are needed at the end of the 2nd half, playoffs and championships will be rescheduled.

LINE-UPS

  • All line-ups must be exchanged by 5:55 PM for 6:00 matches and 7:10 PM for 7:15 matches on the day of play
  • No substitutions after the exchange of rosters except as noted above for rain out rule.
  • 10 Minute grace period – there is limited parking so come early!
  • A 5 minute warm-up will be enforced.  Remember, this is a warm-up, not a practice.
  • Each team captain provides 3 cans of balls per week.

SETS:

  • 2 Singles and 4 Doubles
  • 2 Regular sets will be played.  At 6 all, a 7 point tie-breaker will be played.
  • If sets are split, a 7 point tie breaker will be played in lieu of a third set.
  • The winning team will be determined by number of courts won.  If each team has won 3 courts (a tie), then the total number of games will be counted to determine the winning team.  The winning team will receive one point.
  • Players from both teams must report game scores to their respective captains.

TEAM SCORE:  Captains record all team scores and call their scores to Joyce Fabina (269-9775) so that scores can be published in the local paper.

FORFEITS:  When a match must be forfeited prior to the start of the match, captains must forfeit their lowest court.  NOTE:  Cell phone time will be designated as the “official” match watch for the entire evening.

DEFAULT/INJURY:  Defaulting team gets 0 points for the court, opposing team gets 1.  The game scores will be 6-0, 6-0.  If there is an injury during the match, the games that have been played stand.  So the final score could be 4-6, 0-3.  The injured party will lose the match, but have the most games.

PLAYING TIME:  Every effort must be made to have everyone PLAY at least six times during the season.  Captains are to record each week the names of players sitting out and whether they are unavailable or not called. Calling and leaving a message one time or emailing only will not be considered a call.  If any player feels they are not getting sufficient opportunity to play, notify Joyce.  If a captain is experiencing difficulties getting in touch with a player, notify Joyce.  Do not wait until the end of the season.  A team proven to not be making the effort to play everyone six times will not be eligible for playoffs.  NOTE:  If a player does not show up when scheduled and did not notify the captain in time to get a replacement, this rule is void unless there are extenuating circumstances.

PLAYOFFS:  There will be a winner of each half.  At the end of the season, the winner of the 1st half will play the winner of the 2nd half.  If there is a tie in either half, a playoff will be played between the teams to determine the winner of the half.

USTA RULES WILL GOVERN ALL LEAGUE PLAY
